Pumpkin Patisson is a vegetable from the gourd family that is steadily gaining popularity with consumers. As a result, it is increasingly grown on allotments and in backyard vegetable gardens. Very flavorful, relatively easy to grow and versatile. The fruits stand out with their delicate flavor and beautiful appearance.

Unlike “normal” pumpkins, the plant has a pronounced growth habit. Compact, bushy and does not take up much space in the flower bed of your vegetable garden. Flowers emerging from their axils are hidden by large, hand-shaped leaves with long, rough, hairy petioles. The plants’ thin, but well-developed, root system makes them susceptible to drought, so keep the soil moist. Patisson pumpkins have a disk-like shape or, as some people call it, the appearance of two plates folded together. There are indentations around the edge and they reach a height of about 30 cm. The best fruits are small and very small, with a shiny, slightly sticky skin. They get harder as they age. Fruits of the Patisson Disco variety have creamy white skin. Juveniles are light green and as they mature, they become paler. The crop is quite numerous and uniform.

The nutrient-rich Patisson squash is perfect for pickling, as is its relative the cucumber. The young, rippled bubbles of the Disco Patisson are a delicious addition to a dish of cold or hot meats and cold cuts when soaked in a fragrant brine with spices added. If we use a different brine, we get pickled patties that are more subtle in flavor and resemble cucumbers, you can go either way. They make a cool salad element when thinly sliced and served peeled and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. There are lots of different uses for Disco pumpkins. They can be stuffed, baked or stewed. They are an intriguing addition to meat stew and a wonderful starting point for healthy recipes. Moreover, fried pumpkins are an interesting alternative to classic recipes. They taste great when dipped in batter and then deep-fried. Patisson-based fries are also worth trying.

Except there are so many preparation options, it also has another side. As a vegetable with excellent health benefits, namely. First, it is low in calories and rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C and beta-carotene. B vitamins and mineral salts are also included.
