Want to sow lettuce? Simple! Lettuce is an easy-to-grow vegetable for your vegetable garden. Lettuce seeds like a temperature between 4 and 18 degrees, so sowing can be done in the slightly cooler months such as early spring, fall and winter.

Sowing lettuce: how do you do it?

Sowing lettuce is easier than you think. The most important thing is to have the right supplies and space. A good strategy for lettuce sowing is to sow some every other week, or two weeks. That way you also have a fresh head of lettuce every other week, or two weeks!

One advantage of starting in the colder periods is that pests will not be a major problem.

When do you sow lettuce?

So, as mentioned, in the fresher periods when the temperature is between 4 and 18 degrees light. This is often in early spring, autumn or early winter. Want to sow in winter when it’s colder? Then you can sow it in a greenhouse.

Sowing lettuce in brief

If you want to sow lettuce in January or February, you will have to sow them indoors or in the greenhouse. In the warmer months, it can also be planted directly in your vegetable garden.

In brief:

Loosen the soil into which the lettuce seeds will go.
Sow the seeds about 0.5 centimeters deep and about 2.5 centimeters apart.
Water the seeds but don’t make it too wet. Lettuce likes moist soil.
As soon as they get their first “real” leaves, you can plant them 15 centimeters apart.
After about 4 to 6 weeks, the lettuce is ready to be harvested!

Keep in mind that there are many different types of lettuce, and therefore different ripening times.
