These red cabbage seeds produce a cabbage with one of the most beautiful heads available. It is a late red cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata). The red cabbage from this cabbage has thick, crisp red-violet leaves that are huge and vibrantly colored. They create a conical or spherical head that is tightly closed. Adult heads usually weigh between 2 and even 4 kilograms. When grown outdoors, this wonderful, highly prized cabbage variety is carefree and produces abundant crops. Large heads of Langedijker Dauer 2 red cabbage that are neatly sealed are ideal for long-term storage. They make the best base for vegetable stews.

They also have a wealth of nutritional benefits, have a unique flavor and provide intense, beautiful, alluring color. Compared to white cabbage, red cabbage has higher vitamin C concentrations, but that’s not all. It is rich in anthocyanins, antioxidants that have a positive impact on the human body and are crucial in preventing cancer, unlike its better-known white-leaf sibling, the white cabbage. Beta-carotene, B vitamins, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, copper, selenium, zinc, iodine and fluorine are also abundant in red cabbage.

Langedijker Dauer red cabbage is best sown in spring. Sow seeds in a seed bed or in seed trays in your vegetable garden. During phases three and four, young plants can be moved to the desired location. To develop large, compact cabbage heads, the soil must be healthy, humus-rich and sufficiently moist. After 150 days from the time the seedlings are planted until they reach their final position, you can start harvesting.
